Project:

Kallari Rebranding Project, Ecuador, January - June 2007

Client:

Kallari Association

Brief:

Work with this farmers cooperative to create a brand image which reflects the world class quality of their chocolate and the cultural story of the Kallari Association.

Process:

Spending time with Kallari directors and members of the cooperative in their homes in the Ecuadorian Amazon; learning the history of the Kichwa people, their culture, their connection to the rainforest and about their natural resources; understanding the threats posed to their sustainable livelihoods by the logging and oil industries, experiencing the chocolate making process from cacao plant to finished branded bar. Working to understand Kallari's market by selling the bar at trade shows in the US.

Result:

New box design and interior graphics for their chocolate bar (using pro bono exterior graphics by Boston design firm); new business cards for directors of Kallari; new menus for Kallari Cafe (all graphics were printed on recyled paper stock using water based inks); a new cafe interior with photo wall telling the Kallari chocolate story.
