Project:
The Kallari Chocolate Factory Project, Ecuador, January - June 2007 .
Client:
Brief:
Project with Kallari directors and local Ecuadorian architect Oswaldo Enriques to create a proposal for Kallari to build their own chocolate factory.
Process:
Understand and experience current chocolate making process within Kallari organisation; liase with Kallari directors on why, where and how they want to build their own factory; develop action plans, projected budgets and geographical site surveys; create opportunity for Kallari to enter an international design competition with Architecture For Humanity to promote organisation and engage with the global design community.
Result:
Kallari were one of three community partners chosen by Architecture for Humanity for the Open Architecture Challenge. The winning design for the Kallari Chocolate Factory was chosen by a panel of judges, including members of the Kallari Association, for it's beautiful design, appropriate use of materials and sustainable design considerations.
The winning team (Heather Worrell, ChunSheh Teo, Igor Ta) have since visited the proposed factory site in Ecuador and have started working with Oswaldo Enriques to finalise their design. Kallari are currently looking for funding to build the factory.
