Brief:
Commissioned by Nick Hancock to carry out an environmental evaluation of the Flying Bridge proposal. Key elements: site ecology, liase with regional experts, research sustainable construction materials, hand modelling bridge’s superstructure - Inspired by its wetlands surroundings, the bridge’s form is that of a bird in flight.
Process:
Report created of site’s ecology through research with local ecologist Dave Bentley, Lancashire Wildlife Trust, Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust, Lancashire County Council, Sustrans, RSPB, Bat Conservation Trust, and Natural England.
Result:
The proposal was awarded second place in an international competition organised by RIBA and REMADE.
